This review of cadmium in New Zealand agricultural soils draws on a total of 5429 soil samples for statistical evaluation and modelling. Soil samples are identified by soil types and land use and were collected by the fertiliser industry between 2006 and 2015, and by regional councils.
The report compares the soil cadmium levels to the soil cadmium management values used in the Tiered Fertiliser Management System, as part of the New Zealand Cadmium Management Strategy. Using these data, a statistical model was used to estimate and map representative soil cadmium concentrations on agricultural land within each territorial authority.
The full report has been published in the New Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research.
